A Letter From Our New Member Educator

Dear Potential New Members,

First off, I am so thrilled you made the decision to spend the next four years here at Auburn! The past two years I’ve spent at this university have been nothing but the best and full of surprises, and I’m so excited for you to start your journey through college. My name is Sammy Perkinson and I have the pleasure of serving as Pi Beta Phi’s New Member Educator this year. For those who decide to go through recruitment, my position entails mentoring and guiding our new members through their first few months! Whether you decide to go through recruitment or not, Auburn will give you an experience like no other and you will be reminded of the reason you chose our university almost daily.

From the moment I attended Camp War Eagle, my future experience as a freshman in college became surreal. As my parents moved every last box into my dorm and said their goodbyes, thesinking feeling of becoming independent and living on my own (with a roommate) finally became a reality. From the second I stepped into Pi Phi, I felt like I was in my home away from home. I knew I wanted to spend my four years at Auburn with these girls who constantly supported me, pushed me, and encouraged me to be myself.

Bid Day was one of the most incredible days. Running from the arena with hundreds of girls to and near the same place was an adrenaline rush. This was the type of love and friendship I was looking for and it was then that I first realized that I would always find these girls surrounding me and standing next to me. I was looking forward to meeting girls whose friendship would last a life time. I found girls who would spend six days in the library straight studying for finals, but also the girls who were down for eating a gallon of ice cream and watching movies all day. The incredible sisters who make up Pi Beta Phi continue to amaze me as they travel half way across the world to study, land internships with Disney and Nordstromand work their way up to working for Victoria Secret in NYC. I love having sisters who constantly lift me up and remind me of my potential of making it in the real world – and that is the reason I love Auburn and Pi Beta Phi.

My experience as a freshman helped transform me into who I am just a mere year later. I encourage everyone to give recruitment a try, join that organization, enroll in the class, and reach out to the girl in your class who looks like she could use your help. The community of Auburn and Panhellenic work hand and hand to truly represent what Auburn is, a family. I can’t wait for you to meet friends who become family and bring out the best version of you. Congratulations on your acceptance to the best university!

Pi Phi Love and Mine,

Sammy Perkinson
